Propolis - Known for its Remarkable Ability to Fight Microbes and Decrease the Production of Histamines

Propolis is an age-old remedy made by the bees to keep germs out of their hive. It is known for its remarkable abilities to assist in the fight against viruses, bacteria, microbes, and fungus.

Propolis is made by honeybees from plant and tree resins. These substances already have anti-bacterial properties which are bolstered when the bees process the resins in their systems.

Honeybees use propolis to seal their hives and keep germs and microbes out. They also use it to dampen vibration and fill cracks or holes in their colonies. Bees have even been known to use propolis to coat mice or other pests that enter the hive and are then stung to death by the guard bees. The bees don't have the physical strength to move the dead pests out so they coat the body in propolis which keeps the decaying flesh and germs safely sealed inside. Pretty gross but also pretty amazing!

Because of these microbe-fighting abilities, propolis has been used in wound and oral care for generations. It's common to see it in European pharmacies for sore-throat care or as a recommended recovery-aid after oral surgery. By gently keeping virus, bacteria, and fungus from growing in the mouth or on the surface of a wound, propolis aids healing and keeps infection out.

It's also known to bolster the immune system in humans. Taken in pure form or as part of our propolis honey, it's a great way to guard against colds, viruses and even seasonal allergies. Propolis is known to have anti-inflammatory properties which can lessen the effects of seasonal allergies. Beekeepers are known to chip off a piece of propolis when checking on their hives and swallow it in order to stay healthy. Beekeepers are also known to live long lives.

Try introducing propolis honey to your daily health routine or use it as a way to soothe sore throats, coughs, cold symptoms, and even allergies. It's bee-medicine!
